PURSUE 2026: Advancing Sustainable Housing Construction at FEUP
The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) will host the PURSUE face-to-face training programme from 4 to 8 May 2026. Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, the training focuses on promoting sustainable and affordable housing construction technologies using environmentally sound, locally available resources.

Training overview
- Monday, 4 May 2026 - Strategic and scientific framework, including institutional welcomes and introductory sessions on earthen construction innovations and African housing challenges.
- Tuesday, 5 May 2026 - Construction methods and structural design, covering vernacular earthen construction methods, soil testing protocols, and the structural behavior of earth materials.
- Wednesday, 6 May 2026 - Testing and digital fabrication, with mix design, hygrothermal assessments, laboratory demonstrations, and 3D printing with soils.
- Thursday, 7 May 2026 - Architecture and built applications, including a full-day study visit to the Aveiro Region for technical discussions and observations of earthen construction systems.
- Friday, 8 May 2026 - Replication and capacity building, ending with collaborative workshops on curriculum integration, institutional action plans, group presentations, and a certificate ceremony.
